Jeffrey Lee Katz, MD

Alternative Text

Dr. Katz has been designing state-of-the-art health care systems for the last decade and has been involved in medical education throughout his career.

While practicing family medicine in Portland, Oregon, he became site director of that office, and simultaneously earned the highest patient satisfaction scores among my 30 colleagues. Despite this, Dr. Katz became frustrated by the quality of experiences within the medical system.

So, in search of a better way, he joined two physician-entrepreneurs and their fledgling company called Zoom+Care. The three of them built Zoom+Care into the Northwest’s premier urgent and primary care practice.

At ZOOM+Care, Dr. Katz and his partners designed a novel training and supervisory system that enabled a broad scale without sacrificing quality. This enabled Zoom+Care to grow to over 40 neighborhood clinics including specialty and emergency services. They recruited, trained, mentored, and lead over 100 clinicians including primary care and specialist physicians, PAs, and FNPs to practice in their innovative model.

They created a bedside teaching program and didactic system that taught need-to-know medical approaches. This included a monthly seminar for our provider team with hands-on sessions and high-yield teaching techniques, all based on a curriculum that included written content, videos, quizzes, and treatment algorithms that are used as references at the point of care.

In 2015, after 9 years building ZOOM+Care, Dr. Katz took on the role as the first chief medical information officer for Steward Health Care, a network of 10 community hospitals throughout Massachusetts. He simultaneously became an adjunct faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine.

After one and a half years working at Steward, Dr. Katz returned to ZOOM+Care working remotely as the VP of Education and Clinical Systems. In 2017, he moved back to Portland and took on the role of Medical Director of Specialty Services, where he sees patients as well.
