Dr. Tovar is one of the few licensed clinical psychologists (LIC #PSY31949) who is also a registered dietitian and fitness expert. She obtained her bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences at the University of Colorado. She became a certified Pilates instructor and then completed her master’s degree in nutritional science at California State University, Los Angeles.
Dr. Tovar then set out to expand her abilities to help connect physical health with mental health by pursuing a doctorate in psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. She completed her post-doctoral hours in private practice with Dr. Richard LaBrie and is now in private practice in Pasadena, CA.
Dr. Tovar specializes in providing holistic and integrated treatment for trauma, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety for children and adults. She has delivered numerous scholarly and professional presentations at several national conferences on a variety of health topics, including the detection and treatment of disordered eating, dissociation, weightism, health disparities among minorities, and mindfulness interventions for eating disorders.
Dr. Tovar is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is the disaster response chair of the San Gabriel Valley Psychological Association and a disaster response committee member in the Los Angeles County Psychological Association.
