Read moreDr. Jessica Brumfield Mitchum, DO, MS, is a board-certified, Family Medicine physician who practices in Georgia. She serves on the faculty at a Family Medicine residency program and enjoys teaching residents and medical students. Her medical interests include rural medicine, women’s health, preventive healthcare, and healthcare of underrepresented populations. Her passion for medicine is rooted in her upbringing in a small Louisiana town with limited access to medical resources. She is also a speaker, blogger, and author.
In the summer before she began residency training she started a personal blog, found on her website, in hopes to motivate and inspire those interested in the medical field. There, she shares her journey of surviving medical school, starting residency, and everything in between.
While in residency, she co-authored the book, Empower Now: True Stories from 14 Young Minority Professionals (Volume 1), which puts voices to the experiences of 14 minority Black professionals in their respective careers. She has spoken to diverse crowds in numerous settings including, conferences, churches, lecture halls, meetings, and most recently the keynote speaker at a white coat ceremony for an incoming medical school class.
She is married and lives with her husband in rural Georgia. She enjoys traveling, music, and cooking.
