Cammy Babaie, MD

Alternative Text

Dr. Babaie has had a passion for medicine and education since she was a child. Raised in Los Angeles, she chose to stay in California for her education . She received her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from UCLA, her Master’s Degree in Public Health with a focus on Community Health from UCLA, her MD from Keck USC’s School of Medicine and her residency training in Internal Medicine from LA County-USC (LAC-USC) hospital.

Staying at LAC-USC hospital for training was a given as it was there that she found patients who were in the greatest need of both education and someone who would listen.

Her father, a professor for several universities, instilled in her the joy of educating others. Her mother demonstrated the value of listening to others as a part of healing. With these two skills, she pursued her passion for medicine to help people understand what was going in with their bodies when they were sick and scared. Listening to patients allows Dr. Babaie to truly discover the root of many health issues that patients present with.

After finishing training, Dr. Babaie stayed at LAC-USC to both practice hospital and outpatient medicine and to train medical students and medical residents. She then went on to practice outpatient medicine for a hospital-owned practice and act as Medical Director for their multi-specialty adult medicine clinic for 5 years. This experience demonstrated the dangerous gap that exists in care between patients being discharged from a hospital and further care they needed.

This gap prompted Dr. Babaie to join a group that focused on post-hospital discharge care as their Medical Director and practicing clinician. In this role, she was able to not only act as a safety net when patients left the hospital (and often had no idea what had happened to them there or what they needed to do for further care) but to help improve the process of patient discharge.

Dr. Babaie now has her own outpatient practice in Southern California and continues to enjoy educating patients and, much like Sherlock Holmes, solving the mystery of illness.
